Antlers Forever
Published in Hardcover by Down East Books (May, 2001)
Authors: Frances Bloxam and Jim Sollers
Average review score:

Our favorite book this year!
Your book was perfect and easy to recite. The kids loved the rhythm and Orville's big fright.

We all learned a lot about antlers on moose. The same things happen when our teeth get loose.

The funniest parts were the beezles he ate. We laughed as we read it and thought it was great!

Fran knows children well: their love of nonsense, their feeling for rhyme and rhythm. Jim enhances this with his captivating drawings. Who could not love Orville Anderson Tarkington Moose? Great book!

Good book about problem-solving and friendship
Delightful book that introduces children to Baxter Bear and Moses Moose. Baxter is different from the other bears because he collects hats. He is faced with the problem of where to put all of his hats. Moses has his own problem: cold feet. Baxter decides that a moose rack and Moses decided that a bear rug are the solutions to their problems. How those problems are ultimately resolved and how these two find friendship are the rest of the story.

Big Jim and White-Legged Moose
Humorous tale of wildlife artist being caught without his tools when he sees a unique moose. Kids will laugh at the encounter between the man and the moose. Very good color illustrations make this an excellent choice for children from K through the 2nd grade.

Bruce the Balding Moose: A 3-D Picture Book
Published in Hardcover by Dial Books for Young Readers (November, 1996)
Authors: Corinne Mellor, Allen Jonathan, Jonathan Allen, and Richard Ferguson
Average review score:

Of baldness and good friends...
This is a wonderfully funny book, which appeals to all children -- but has a special magic for families affected by cancer. Bruce is a loveable character, who is embarassed when his antlers fall out. His friends offer lots of suggestions, which result in the ridiculous and amusing, made even more comical by the pop-up illustrations. This book was recommended to us by a social worker as her favorite for reading with her children when she lost her hair during a course of chemotherapy treatment. Humor is healing! This book would also be instructional for children (or adults!) who are embarassed by their appearance for whatever reason.

Bugly Bear's Hiccup Cure was a wonderful book that I had as a child. It is very funny as well. I hate to see it going out of print. Please encourage the publisher to reprint it. I lost my copy and never got it back. HELP!

Honk the Moose
Published in Hardcover by Trellis Publishing, Inc. (October, 2001)
Authors: Phil Stong, Phil Strong, and Kurt Wiese
Average review score:

A delightful tale based on a true story
When Waino and Ivar find a moose in their father's stable, the critter looked so sad they couldn't bear to shoot him. The final solution to this unique situation is as heartwarming as it is entertaining. This is a delightful tale based on a true story from Biwabik, Minnesota, and replete with historical information about life for Finnish immigrant children in Minnesota. When it was originally published, Honk: The Moose won distinction as a Newbery Honors Book in 1936. It went on to win the Lewis Carol Shelf Award in 1970, and was listed in Cattermole's 100 Best Children's Books of the 20th Century. Now in a new edition from Trellis Publishing, Phil Strong's Honk: The Moose (wonderfully illustrated by Kurt Wiese) is once again introduced to a whole new generation of appreciative children.

How to Make a Moose Run: And Other Great Things My Dad Taught Me
Published in Paperback by RiverOak Publishing (March, 2001)
Authors: Gary Starley and Gary Stanley
Average review score:

Inspirational Read
I stumbled across this small book at a local pharmacy and I'm so glad I did. What a wonderful read! The author uses stories from his boyhood to illustrate the affect his father's life had on his own. At the core, this book is about faith in God...and faith in ourselves. I've never considered myself a religious person but this book, told with humorous and heartfelt stories, struck a cord.
